Air Afrique historically operated as a pan-African airline, serving multiple West and Central African countries from its hub in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. At its peak, it connected over 30 destinations across Africa and beyond, utilizing a mixed fleet that included models such as McDonnell Douglas DC-10s, Airbus A300s, and Boeing 737s. It was jointly owned by several African nations, reflecting a unique multinational airline collaboration aimed at fostering regional connectivity and socio-economic integration.

Innovation and Milestones

Air Afrique was notable for being one of the first African carriers to operate wide-body aircraft, enhancing its long-haul capabilities during the 1970s and 1980s. It pioneered joint ownership by multiple African states, creating a distinctive model of cooperation in the continent’s aviation sector.
