Air Tahiti Nui is considering a new fleet approach involving the Airbus A350 and A321XLR aircraft to support its growth strategy. The airline has been conducting detailed audits of its current fleet, which comprises only Boeing 787 Dreamliners, following a recent phase-out of Airbus A340-300s that aimed to improve fuel efficiency and product consistency.

According to reports, the airline is evaluating these aircraft for deployment on different segments of its network. The proposed plan includes using the Airbus A350 for flagship long-haul services, the Boeing 787-9 for core medium-density routes, and the Airbus A321XLR for regional and niche long-range markets. This diversified fleet plan aims to reduce operational risk and enhance flexibility in route planning.

The strategic shift reflects a broader industry trend towards multi-type fleets, enabling airlines to better meet various market demands. Although no formal orders have been announced, the evaluation underscores Air Tahiti Nui's intent to adapt its fleet to future growth opportunities, especially to strengthen its connectivity with French Polynesia and beyond.
