AirAsia X, which operates Airbus A330-300 aircraft, has announced its intention to change its company name to AirAsia Group, subject to shareholder approval at its upcoming 19th annual general meeting. The Companies Commission of Malaysia approved the reservation of the new name on February 24, 2026. If shareholders approve the move, the rebranding will take effect once the commission issues a notice of registration.
The proposed name change could signify a strategic move to unify the brand under the AirAsia banner. This consolidation is expected to enhance operational efficiency and brand recognition across the region. Details about the impact on the airline's operations or corporate structure are yet to be clarified.
Operational Footprint
Currently, AirAsia X's main base is Kuala Lumpur International Airport, with a fleet of 102 aircraft serving 25 destinations through 26 routes, including 27 flights per day. The airline positions itself as a scheduled carrier with significant regional coverage.
"The change, if approved by shareholders, will take effect once the commission issues a notice of registration for the new name,"
said a company spokesperson.
This rebranding effort aligns with industry-wide restructuring efforts amid ongoing financial and market challenges faced by carriers in the region. The move is anticipated to reinforce AirAsia's market position and brand strength in the evolving aviation landscape.
