Several airlines are undertaking significant network enhancements and launching new routes heading into 2026. Air Europa has expanded its Latin American offerings through a codeshare agreement with Sky Airline, facilitating flights between Lima and Santiago, as well as within Peru. Meanwhile, AirAsia is adding an international route connecting Kota Bharu, Malaysia, to Jakarta, aiming to stimulate regional tourism and business travel.
European carriers are also actively planning for the summer season. Ryanair has announced its 2026 schedule for Pisa, with new destinations such as Bratislava and Rabat, and increased frequencies on existing routes. Italian carrier Royal Brunei Airlines will operate a temporary non-stop service between Bandar Seri Begawan and London Heathrow in March, providing vital connectivity after service suspensions in the region.
In North America and beyond, American Airlines has begun a seasonal daily service from New York to Edinburgh, utilizing Airbus A321XLR aircraft for the first time on this route. EasyJet is resuming its London to Paris service, increasing its weekly frequencies. Air Cairo prepares to launch seasonal routes from Oslo to Cairo and Hurghada in winter 2026-27, expanding its European network.
Further afield, Chinese carrier China Eastern Airlines will return to Stockholm with a route from Shanghai Pudong, operating three times weekly starting June. Brazilian airline GOL Linhas Aéreas has announced its inaugural long-haul flight from Rio de Janeiro to New York, scheduled for July, part of its international expansion. Scandinavian Airlines has reintroduced its Riga-Copenhagen service after more than a decade of absence, and Indonesia AirAsia has opened a domestic route linking Surabaya and Makassar to strengthen regional hubs.
Finally, Southwest Airlines commenced operations at Knoxville’s McGhee Tyson Airport with new routes, including daily flights to Nashville and other U.S. destinations, scheduled to expand in spring 2026. These developments underscore a vibrant period of growth and increased connectivity in the global airline industry, driven by strategic alliances, route innovation, and regional market expansion.
