Ascend Airways Malaysia, a subsidiary of the global aviation services provider Avia Solutions Group, has successfully obtained its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Air Service Permit (ASP), confirming its operational readiness. The airline is set to commence cargo and passenger operations from Kuala Lumpur, with passenger flights scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2026, subject to further regulatory approval.
The airline acquired its Conditional Air Service Permit earlier in 2024 and collaborated closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to fulfill all safety and regulatory requirements. Its initial fleet includes a Boeing 737-800SF aircraft, which will serve both domestic and regional routes covering Southeast Asia. CEO Germal Singh Khera stated that the airline will provide flexible ACMI lease solutions, aiming to bolster Malaysia’s logistics and aviation industries.
Avia Solutions Group, which operates 11 AOCs worldwide with a fleet of 187 aircraft, emphasizes the strategic advantage of the wet lease (ACMI) model, which allows airlines to increase capacity quickly and efficiently during peak seasons. The group forecasts operational and revenue benefits with potential profit uplift of 2-3% through this approach.
CAAM CEO Dato' Captain Norazman Bin Mahmud praised the airline's rigorous certification process, underscoring its adherence to Malaysia’s stringent safety standards. He expressed optimism about Ascend Airways Malaysia’s role in strengthening the nation’s aviation sector and its contribution toward creating a resilient, safe, and globally compliant airline operator.
