Asian and Middle Eastern carriers have once again led Skytrax’s prestigious 5-star airline rankings, with no European airline earning a place among the top-rated operators. According to Skytrax, an international airline rating organization, the top ten list exclusively comprises airlines from Asia and the Middle East, marking a significant departure from previous years when European carriers commonly featured.
Skytrax’s ranking process assesses airlines based on their product and service quality, covering onboard and airport environments. The selection is rigorous, focusing on standards such as staff professionalism, aircraft cleanliness, onboard amenities, and airport service standards. Notably, the ranking does not evaluate customer reviews, citing the lack of a consistent global quality rating system.
Notable Airlines Awarded Five-Star Status
Among the airlines honored with a five-star rating, Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) has achieved this distinction for the 13th consecutive year. Asiana Airlines from South Korea, praised for its airport and onboard service, is also included and will merge with Korean Air later this year. Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong, and EVA Air from Taiwan, which has maintained its five-star status for 11 years, are part of the elite group.
Other notable winners include Hainan Airlines from China, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, and STARLUX Airlines from Taiwan. The ranking emphasizes consistent quality across multiple dimensions, from ground services to onboard experience, with no airline from Europe among the ten top-rated operators. Skytrax’s annual awards highlight the global shift in airline service excellence, reflecting operational standards rather than customer ratings.
