Boeing Seeks to Limit Damages Evidence in Lawsuit against LOT Polish Airlines over 737 MAX Grounding

Legal proceedings have brought Boeing into controversy as the aerospace giant sought to limit evidence related to damages claimed by LOT Polish Airlines over the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX. In an emergency motion filed at the US District Court in Seattle, Boeing opposed the late submission of a damages report by LOT, which increased its claim from USD195.2 million to USD203.6 million, citing additional operational costs and pre-judgment interest. Boeing argued that the report was filed just days before the scheduled trial and violated procedural rules requiring timely disclosures.

The case, initiated by LOT in 2021, alleges that Boeing misled the airline regarding the safety features of the 737 MAX, including the MCAS system. Following two fatal crashes, the aircraft was grounded for nearly two years, causing substantial financial losses for LOT, which claims Boeing concealed critical design information and safety concerns. The dispute highlights ongoing tensions over Boeing’s conduct and liability related to the MAX’s safety issues.

The lawsuit seeks significant compensation, asserting Boeing’s alleged misconduct led to damages suffered by LOT. Boeing has declined to comment on the current motion, and LOT remains unavailable for further remarks. The court’s decision on the motion may impact the scope of damages presented at trial, which is set for February 17, 2026.
