Chile’s first privately owned maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility, APAS Chile, is undergoing significant expansion to meet increasing regional demand. Since opening its first hangar at Santiago International Airport in 2022, the company has invested in additional infrastructure, including new widebody hangars scheduled for completion in 2026 and 2027. The facility’s capacity is expected to double, supporting larger aircraft such as the Boeing 777, and its ramp space will be extended by over 800,000 square feet.
Supported by aviation regulation approvals in several Latin American countries and the United States, APAS Chile is actively pursuing European certification. Its client portfolio includes several Latin American airlines, with services spanning line and heavy maintenance, engine support, component overhaul, and training. Alfredo Asenscio, the company's SVP of business development, emphasized that the decision to expand was driven by high demand and limited existing capacity worldwide.
The company has attracted approximately $40 million USD in private investment and engages with international partners, including Turkish Airlines, which has expressed interest. With a current workforce of 250 technicians and staff,APAS Chile plans to nearly double its staffing to 600 after completing its current and upcoming facilities. The company also recruits technicians from neighboring countries such as Colombia and Peru, reinforcing its regional footprint.
With its Miami-based repair station supporting the operations, APAS Chile intends to become Latin America’s leading MRO provider. The firm’s rapid growth and regional focus position it favorably for future demand, as airlines in the Americas continue to expand and modernize their fleet maintenance capabilities.
