Construction of the new international terminal at Long Thanh Airport in Vietnam is making significant progress. The lotus-shaped passenger building, part of a $1.42 billion project, spans 376,000 square meters and is designed to handle up to 25 million passengers annually once operational. Currently, key systems such as elevators, escalators, and electrical networks are being installed by a large workforce supporting a deadline for the airport’s first scheduled flight on December 19.
Engineers and workers are employing around-the-clock shifts, with over 14,000 personnel involved in various phases of construction. The terminal's unique design features a central skylight that enhances natural lighting, creating an expansive and airy interior that mimics a blooming lotus. The facility includes multiple levels for arrivals and departures, with the roof reaching a height of approximately 45.55 meters, and will be equipped with 40 aircraft parking stands and 32 jet bridges for a variety of aircraft models.
National Significance and Future Outlook
The airport project, totaling around 5 billion USD, aims to establish Vietnam’s largest aviation gateway and is strategically positioned on a sprawling 5,364-hectare site. Upon completion, Long Thanh Airport will serve up to 100 million passengers annually and is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity and economic growth. The ongoing construction efforts exemplify Vietnam's ambitions to elevate its presence in the global aviation industry and support future growth in air travel demand.
