On December 11, 2025, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) summoned IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers to address ongoing operational disruptions. The measure follows a recent ministry order to reduce IndiGo's flight operations by 10 percent, aiming to manage the airline’s severe pilot shortages and large-scale cancellations.
The DGCA also announced the formation of an Oversight Team to monitor and address passenger inconveniences caused by airline disruptions across various airports nationwide. The regulator has requested detailed reports from IndiGo on flight restoration efforts, passenger re-accommodation, and measures for vulnerable travelers, along with insights into pilot recruitment, training, and compliance with flight duty regulations.
Additionally, the airline must provide data concerning cancellations, refunds, baggage handling, and communication systems, including real-time delay notifications and rerouting procedures. Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu emphasized the necessity of route curtailments to stabilize operations and reduce cancellations, affirming continued coverage of all destinations under the new directives.
The past week saw numerous passenger complaints related to crew scheduling, flight timings, and communication lapses. Ongoing investigations and stabilization efforts are being reviewed through top management meetings, with strict adherence to safety and passenger service regulations pledged by authorities.
