Dubai Airports is actively enhancing its connectivity as the winter travel season approaches, aiming to support a surge in passenger demand. Both Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC) are seeing additional airline services and capacity increases. Notably, several airlines have launched new routes or increased frequency, including FlyArystan from Aktau and Austrian Airlines from Vienna, reflecting growing demand from Europe.
Major carriers such as Virgin Atlantic and British Airways are also increasing capacity with newer aircraft, such as the Airbus A350-1000 and the reintroduction of the Airbus A380 to London Heathrow, respectively. The strong seasonal demand from South Asia and the Middle East further boosts overall connectivity.
Saudi Arabia remains a significant market for Dubai Airports, contributing substantially to passenger traffic. Travel figures indicate that traffic from Saudi Arabia reached over six million passengers across DXB and DWC this year, with DWC experiencing a remarkable 459% increase in passenger numbers.
While DXB continues to serve as Dubai's primary hub, DWC is becoming increasingly significant due to its available capacity. In the first ten months, DWC handled over 1.1 million passengers, with growth driven by markets from the CIS, GCC, and Western Europe. The airport is also experiencing rising cargo volumes and aircraft movements, with Eurowings launching daily services from Stuttgart and Düsseldorf.
According to Robert Whitehouse, vice president of research at Dubai Airports, expanding services at both airports contributes to a more resilient and flexible network. He emphasized that the growth now reflects a well-balanced mix of inbound and outbound travelers, making Dubai's aviation sector more adaptable to seasonal flux and future demands.
