Dubai has established itself as a major hub for international air travel in 2025, with the Dubai–Riyadh route ranking among the top ten busiest in the world. This growth underscores a significant increase in travel demand between the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, driven by economic ties and regional connectivity.
According to a recent report from aviation data firm OAG, the Dubai–Riyadh route saw 4.5 million scheduled seats this year, marking a 4% rise from 2024 and a 42% increase compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. This growth has positioned it as the seventh busiest international route globally. Similarly, Cairo–Jeddah became the second busiest international route, accommodating 5.8 million seats, with capacity growing by 71% since 2019.
Regional Aviation Trends
The report highlights the dominance of the Asia-Pacific region, which accounts for nine of the ten busiest airline routes in 2025. The Jeju–Seoul Gimpo route leads with 14.4 million seats scheduled this year, although it remains below pre-pandemic figures. In the Middle East, domestic routes are also experiencing rapid expansion, with Jeddah–Riyadh capacity increasing by 13% year-over-year to 9.8 million seats, over 22% above pre-pandemic levels. This growth reflects a broader recovery in regional aviation, supported by heightened competition and reduced fares.
The continued recovery and expansion of flight routes in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific regions emphasize the importance of connectivity and economic growth in these areas. As aviation sectors rebound strongly, regional airlines and airports are expected to benefit from sustained demand for both domestic and international travel.
