In a strategic move to expand its maintenance capabilities, easyJet has announced plans to acquire Slovenia-based Adria Tehnika, which operates five aircraft maintenance lines at Ljubljana Airport. The deal, signed on December 1 and expected to finalize in 2026, aims to strengthen the airline's in-house MRO network, enabling greater operational resilience.

Brendan McConnellogue, easyJet's director of engineering and maintenance, emphasized the long-standing relationship with Adria Tehnika, citing over 200 major Airbus maintenance projects. The partnership began in 2016 with cabin reconfigurations, followed by extensive base maintenance contracts. The acquisition will see Adria Tehnika's CEO, Barbara Perko Brvar, continue leading the company, which will benefit from easyJet's strategic investment to further develop its capabilities.

Industry Expansion and Strategic Goals

During the recent years, easyJet has expanded its in-house maintenance infrastructure, including the purchase of SR Technics' Malta facility in 2024 and ongoing collaboration with Lufthansa Technik. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to reduce dependence on third-party providers and enhance operational flexibility.

Founded as part of Adria Airways, Adria Tehnika spun off as an independent entity in 2010, was acquired by Linetech in 2015, and sold to Hartenberg Holding in 2024. The airline currently operates approximately 355 Airbus A320 family aircraft, pivotal for its European business.

Future Outlook

This acquisition aligns with easyJet's focus on increasing operational resiliency amid industry challenges, particularly supply chain disruptions. It is anticipated to accelerate the development of maintenance capabilities and support the company's growth ambitions within the European market.

"With a strategic investor like easyJet, we will be able to develop our business, capabilities and the expertise of our employees even faster and further," said Barbara Perko Brvar.

Overall, this move signifies a major step forward in easyJet's strategic efforts to manage maintenance internally, thus improving flexibility and efficiency within its operational framework.
