Ethiopian Airlines has inaugurated three new maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities in July, including a hangar, a component workshop, and a central warehouse. As the largest airline in Africa, it is positioning itself as a regional MRO hub, supporting its fleet and enhancing maintenance capabilities across the continent. Ethiopian's CEO Mesfin Tasew Bekele shared that these facilities aim to improve operational efficiency, foster local talent, and incorporate advanced technologies.

This expansion demonstrates Ethiopia’s strategic investment in self-reliant maintenance services and reflects regional aspirations for developing a competitive aircraft maintenance industry. By nurturing local engineers and technicians, Ethiopian Airlines is strengthening its workforce to sustain fleet growth and modernization efforts.

The airline’s emphasis on integrating new technology facilitates better diagnostics and predictive maintenance, aligning with global standards and reducing turnaround times. Such initiatives reinforce Ethiopia’s role in supporting both African and international aviation markets, underscoring its commitment to sustainable growth and technical excellence in aircraft maintenance.
