GE Aerospace has announced plans to establish a new $50 million On Wing Support (OWS) maintenance facility at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Aerospace Hub in Dubai South. The facility, covering 120,000 square feet, aims to support the growing fleet of CFM Leap-1A/B and GE9X engines in the Middle East region.
Construction is scheduled to start in December 2024, with completion expected by late 2026 and opening in early 2027. The new site will be four times larger than GE's current Dubai support location and will include dedicated maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) training facilities to enhance operational capabilities.
Strategic Significance and Regional Growth
The investment coincides with substantial growth of Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX fleets powered by Leap engines, as well as upcoming expansion of the GE9X-powered Boeing 777X fleet, which is heavily ordered in the Middle East. The Dubai site will be part of a global network that includes facilities in Cincinnati, Doha, London, and Seoul.
“For the first time in ongoing support history, the site will include dedicated MRO training facilities to enhance the team’s capabilities and support customer training,”
According to GE9X General Manager Cristina Seda-Hoelle, this expansion will facilitate larger overhaul operations while maintaining quick turn and field services across all GE Aerospace and partner engines. The location in Dubai underscores UAE’s strategic role within the global aviation ecosystem and its plans to host the world’s largest airport, Dubai World Central.
