The global commercial aviation industry has seen substantial growth, with current data from December 2025 indicating significant fleet sizes among the world’s leading airlines. United Airlines tops the chart with a fleet of 1,058 aircraft, primarily comprising Boeing 737 MAX 9 and Airbus A321neo models, reflecting a strategy focused on fuel efficiency and fleet renewal.

American Airlines holds the second spot, operating 1,013 aircraft. Its fleet includes Boeing 737 series aircraft and a substantial number of Boeing widebody jets such as the 777 and 787 families. Delta Air Lines is the third-largest, with 989 aircraft, including Airbus A220, A320, and larger Airbus A330 and A350 jets, emphasizing a diverse international route network.

In addition, Southwest Airlines, with 810 Boeing 737s, and China Southern Airlines, with 708 aircraft, exemplify regional fleet focus and rapid expansion. China Southern’s fleet encompasses Airbus A320 family, Boeing 737, COMAC ARJ21, and C919 aircraft, illustrating growing Chinese aviation capabilities.

Other notable carriers include China Eastern Airlines with 679 aircraft, SkyWest Airlines with 600, and Air China with 531 aircraft. Turkish Airlines maintains a broad fleet of 399 aircraft, serving over 350 destinations globally. These figures demonstrate a clear trend towards modern aircraft investment and expanding route networks, particularly among Chinese and US carriers, as the industry prepares for future demand.
