ZeroAvia, a trailblazer in hydrogen-powered aviation technology, has secured a new round of financing led by leading investment firms, including Barclays Climate Ventures and Breakthrough Energy Ventures. The funding is intended to accelerate the company’s efforts to industrialize its hydrogen power and propulsion systems, targeting both commercial and defense markets. The company’s innovative SuperStack Flex, a modular fuel cell system, offers higher power density and extended endurance, making it suitable for military applications and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Recently, ZeroAvia received Design Organisation Approval from the UK Civil Aviation Authority, a crucial step enabling it to deliver regulatory-approved fuel cell systems for aircraft. Its main development, the ZA600 hydrogen-electric powertrain, intended for regional flights of 10 to 20 seats, has undergone extensive flight testing. With numerous engine orders secured, including from a launch customer, the firm is working towards certification and deployment of at least 15 aircraft in Norway.
Val Miftakhov, CEO of ZeroAvia, highlighted that the new investment would expedite development and deployment, illustrating the significant impact hydrogen fuel cell technology could have in reducing aviation-related carbon emissions. Industry interest continues to grow, and regulatory achievements reinforce ZeroAvia's position to lead the transition toward sustainable aviation, contributing meaningfully to global decarbonization initiatives.
