Former officials and safety experts have voiced alarm over India’s lack of an independent civil aviation authority, a concern raised by the International Civil Aviation Organization in 2006. Multiple aircraft accidents since 2010 underline the urgency of reform. Critics argue that a lax attitude towards crew rest periods and scheduling exploits regulatory gaps, raising the probability of future accidents. These developments highlight a profound need for strong oversight and enforcement of safety regulations, not only to prevent incidents but to restore confidence in India’s civil aviation system.
Captain A. Ranganathan, an experienced safety adviser, emphasized that safety policies must remain uncompromising.
