A coalition of Washington state legislators, research organizations, and aerospace companies, notably Boeing, has announced the Cascadia Sustainable Aviation Accelerator (CSAA), a major initiative to enhance sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production. During the unveiling at Boeing Future of Flight, the project revealed a target of achieving one billion gallons annually by 2035, supported by an initial funding of around $20 million.
This collaborative effort includes key regional stakeholders such as Alaska Airlines, Earth Finance, Snohomish County, the Port of Seattle, Microsoft, Washington State University, Amazon, and the Washington Department of Commerce. Boeing’s participation as a founding partner highlights the industry’s focus on environmental sustainability in aerospace innovation. The project aims to position the Pacific Northwest as a prominent hub for clean fuel development, addressing industry emissions amid rising environmental concerns.
Unveiled at Boeing’s Everett facility, the initiative underscores regional cooperation aimed at climate goals. Funding, consisting of a $10 million annual appropriation and matched philanthropic donations, positions CSAA as the region’s most ambitious SAF venture. The full story details how this project intends to transform regional biofuel capacity and support aviation’s transition to greener energy sources.
