Japan’s largest airline, ANA Holdings, has canceled 95 flights scheduled for November 29, 2025, affecting around 13,500 passengers. The cancellations resulted from a worldwide recall of Airbus A320 aircraft due to software issues, which require the grounded planes to undergo reprogramming before being redeployed.
The Airbus A320 family forms the backbone of regional short-haul aviation across Asia, notably in China and India. The recall has impacted more than half of Airbus’s global fleet, which totals approximately 11,300 aircraft, including 6,440 A320s. The remedial process involves reverting to previous software versions, a necessary step to ensure safe operation of the affected jets.
Impact on Other Airlines
Japan Airlines, which predominantly operates Boeing aircraft, is not affected by the recall and expects no significant disruptions. South Korea’s Asiana Airlines has indicated that only 17 of its aircraft are impacted, potentially minimizing operational effects.
This widespread software recall emphasizes the importance of regular maintenance and updates for aircraft safety and highlights logistical challenges faced by airlines with large Airbus fleets.
