International Airlines Group (IAG) has announced the appointment of José Antonio Barrionuevo as its new Chief Financial Officer, effective from June 2026. The current CFO, Nicholas Cadbury, will step down and leave the Group in the same month, but will remain with the company for an additional six months to ensure a smooth transition. Barrionuevo, who is presently Chief Financial and Transformation Officer at British Airways, brings extensive experience from various senior leadership roles within the aviation sector, including a notable seven-year tenure as CFO of Iberia. This appointment aligns with IAG’s succession planning strategy, aiming to maintain stability in leadership and ensure continued growth.
Barrionuevo joined IAG in 2013 and has played a key role in the Group’s financial turnaround and strategic development. His background includes experience at JP Morgan and McKinsey, providing him with broad expertise in financial markets and management consulting. The Group emphasizes the importance of internal leadership development to support its long-term sustainability and operational excellence.
He will take over the CFO responsibilities as Nicholas Cadbury departs, who will contribute to the transition until June 2026, reinforcing the structured succession process employed by IAG. This leadership change is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to reinforce its management team amid a dynamic industry environment, with Barrionuevo’s appointment expected to support IAG’s strategic ambitions and financial performance in the coming years.
