Kazakhstan has achieved a notable milestone in aviation safety by ranking among the top 20 countries worldwide, with an impressive compliance indicator of 95.7%. The country's progress was highlighted during the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium 2026 held in Marrakech, Morocco, where officials from Kazakhstan shared their advancements.
During the event, the Chair of Kazakhstan’s Civil Aviation Committee, Saltanat Tompiyeva, outlined significant improvements, including an increase in aviation security indicators from 62% in previous years to 95.7%. Flight safety levels have also risen from 47% in 2009 to 82% in 2025, surpassing global and European averages. Passenger traffic experienced a surge of 80% in 2025 compared to pre-pandemic levels, reflecting strong growth in the sector.
ICAO regional director Nicolas Rallo commended Kazakhstan's transformation from a recipient of support to a model of partnership and strategy, sharing its experience with the global community. The country plans to further enhance its aviation infrastructure by establishing an independent accident investigation body and launching a new aviation training center in Astana. Additionally, Kazakhstan is set to host the ICAO Security Week 2026 in October, marking its first large-scale ICAO event of this kind in the nation.
Discussions at the symposium also involved meetings with ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar and representatives from Canada, France, Singapore, India, and Morocco, focusing on expanding cooperation and developing joint initiatives within ICAO. This progress signifies Kazakhstan’s rising prominence in international aviation and its commitment to safety and collaboration.
