Korean Air has confirmed plans to convert seven of its existing Airbus A350-1000 aircraft orders into dedicated A350F freight versions, as part of its ongoing fleet and cargo modernization strategy. The airline aims to receive these freighters in the late 2020s, bolstering its cargo operations significantly.
The airline's updated order portfolio now includes four A350-900s, twenty A350-1000s, and the seven A350F freighters. These conversions, along with existing passenger aircraft, will support Korean Air’s efforts to expand its freighter capabilities to meet increasing global logistics demands.
In addition to its fleet upgrades, Korean Air’s cargo fleet currently comprises four B747-400ERFs, seven B747-8Fs, and twelve B777-200Fs. The carrier’s strategy also involves renewing and expanding its cargo fleet through conversions and new orders, maintaining its competitive position in worldwide air freight.
Background details reveal that Korean Air has announced a tentative commitment for 103 aircraft from Boeing, including eight B777-8Fs, although these orders remain unconfirmed. The airline operates from Seoul Incheon, serving 104 destinations through 120 routes and conducting approximately 377 daily flights, underscoring its significant operational capacity.
This fleet modernization reflects Korean Air's focus on optimizing and expanding its logistics network amid rising cargo demands, and aligns with broader industry trends toward aircraft life extension and conversion programs to meet market needs.
