South Korean carrier Korean Air has announced an order for the Airbus A350F, a freight version of the advanced A350 aircraft still in its development phase. The airline upgraded seven of its existing A350-1000 orders to the new A350F variant, which is designed to meet enhanced ICAO emissions standards and improve cargo capacity and fuel efficiency. In total, Korean Air has 33 A350 aircraft on order, reflecting its focus on modernizing its fleet with environmentally efficient models.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President for Commercial Aircraft Sales, emphasized the importance of the order, stating, "Korean Air is one of the world's largest cargo operators. The decision to add the A350F to its fleet is a significant endorsement of the aircraft’s capabilities. The A350F will provide Korean Air with a highly efficient solution in the large freighter segment."
The Airbus A350F boasts the largest main cargo loading door among dedicated freighters and can carry up to 111 tonnes of freight across distances of up to 4,700 nautical miles. One of its notable benefits is its environmental advantage, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 40% compared to existing freighter models. The aircraft's development is ongoing, but early interest from cargo operators highlights its reception in the market.
This strategic move by Korean Air demonstrates a commitment to sustainability and fleet renewal, aiming to align with stricter emissions standards while ensuring competitive cargo services on a global scale.
