The Lagos aviation industry is gearing up for a major expansion in 2026, with several airlines announcing new routes and service improvements. Local carriers such as Air Peace are restructuring their regional networks to operate daytime flights, facilitating better connections to West African destinations including Accra, Abidjan, Dakar, and Monrovia. This shift aims to improve passenger convenience, reduce congestion, and boost passenger numbers. Meanwhile, Air Tanzania has received approval to launch the first nonstop East–West Africa route from Dar es Salaam to Lagos, further integrating East Africa into Nigeria’s air travel network. The route will serve both passenger and cargo needs, fostering stronger economic ties between Tanzania and Nigeria. International airlines like Virgin Atlantic are expected to expand their flights to London and Manchester to meet increased demand from business and leisure travelers. Lagos also plans to launch charter flights to Caribbean destinations, enhancing tourism and business exchanges with the region. To support these developments, ongoing infrastructure upgrades at Murtala Muhammed International Airport will improve terminal capacity, baggage systems, and passenger facilities. These investments position Lagos as a key international hub in West Africa, attracting more visitors and international investments in the process. The industry’s expansion is expected to generate economic growth, create jobs, and attract foreign investors, reinforcing Lagos’s role as Nigeria’s economic and aviation center. With new routes, airline services, and modern infrastructure, Lagos’s aviation sector looks set for a transformative year ahead.
