Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) announced that the operations of MASwings will transfer to AirBorneo effective January 1, 2026, following the completion of a sale and purchase agreement with the Sarawak Government signed on February 12, 2025. AirBorneo will assume full responsibility for all services previously operated by MASwings, including flight operations and passenger management. During the transition phase, MASwings branding may still be visible as AirBorneo establishes its new identity.
Established in 2007, MASwings was East Malaysia’s first dedicated commuter airline, serving Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan with a fleet initially comprising Fokker 50s and Twin Otters. In 2009, the airline replaced its Fokker 50 fleet with ATR 72-500 aircraft. Over its history, MASwings operated more than 430,000 flights carrying over 19 million passengers, contributing significantly to regional connectivity and socio-economic development.
Regional Impact and Transition
MAG highlighted its commitment to a smooth transition and acknowledged MASwings’ role in supporting rural air services, healthcare access, tourism, and community development over nearly two decades. The airline also created over 300 jobs across various operational sectors.
