Volaris and Viva Aerobus are set to merge their management operations to form a new holding company called Mexican Airline Group. Both airlines will retain their respective Air Operator Certificates (AOC) and brand identities. Roberto Alcántara Rojas, currently chairman of Viva Aerobus, is expected to take on the role of chairman of the new entity.

The merger aims to benefit from economies of scale, with plans to reduce aircraft ownership costs and bolster their financial positions. The airlines intend to increase the volume of flights at Mexico's new Mexico City airport and establish new operational bases across Mexico to expand their route networks. The completion of the transaction is subject to approval by shareholders and regulators, with an anticipated closure within 2026.
