The Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has achieved a notable milestone in aviation safety, recording a score of 73% under the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) safety audit program. This score surpasses both regional and global averages, underlining Namibia's commitment to maintaining high standards in aviation safety.
During a recent four-day visit from 17 to 20 February, a high-level delegation from the ICAO’s Eastern and Southern African (ESAF) office emphasized the significance of this achievement. Led by regional director Lucy Mbugua, the delegation included technical experts and the deputy regional director, Richard Gatete.
Discussions between ICAO officials and the NCAA, along with other industry stakeholders such as the Namibia Airports Company and national ministries, focused on Namibia’s ongoing safety performance improvements, regulatory enhancements, and infrastructure development. The review paid particular attention to Namibia’s results under the ICAO Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme, which assesses how effectively countries implement international safety standards.
"This visit was an opportunity to evaluate progress and reinforce cooperation with regional partners,"
said NCAA director Toska Sem. "It reflects our commitment to upholding safety, security, and environmental standards in civil aviation."
The ICAO delegation commended the NCAA for its efforts in strengthening aviation oversight and urged continued collaboration to uphold international standards. The NCAA affirmed its dedication to working with regional and international partners to ensure safe and secure air transport across Namibia.
