The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) under the leadership of Director General Captain Chris Najomo has implemented significant reforms to enhance the safety, efficiency, and global competitiveness of Nigeria's aviation sector. With more than four decades of experience, Najomo has prioritized digital transformation, exemplified by the introduction of the EMPIC management system, which streamlines licensing and certification operations, reducing delays and promoting transparency.
Among notable achievements is the launch of a Consumer Protection Portal designed to empower passengers with vital information and swift resolution avenues. Additionally, the NCAA has simplified the often lengthy process of obtaining an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), reducing the average timeline from two years to just one, resulting in five issued AOCs within a year.
Safety measures have also been bolstered through enhanced surveillance activities, including ramp checks on aircraft. The organization successfully recertified major international airports in Abuja and Lagos, meeting international standards. Furthermore, Nigeria plans to recertify three additional airports to solidify its global standing.
Captain Najomo envisions transforming the NCAA into a model regulatory authority that embodies trust and efficiency. His collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has contributed to crafting Nigeria's Civil Aviation Master Plan, aiming at sustainable growth. His continuous pursuit of innovation and adherence to international standards seeks to position Nigeria’s aviation industry as a competitive player on the world stage.
