Philippine Airlines has officially taken delivery of its first Airbus A350-1000, marking a milestone as the first of this model delivered to Southeast Asia. The aircraft arrived in Manila over the weekend, with a ceremonial event held in Toulouse to celebrate the occasion. Configured to seat 382 passengers across three classes, the airline plans to deploy this fleet upgrade on transpacific routes to enhance its long-haul service capabilities.

According to airline executives, the A350-1000 provides a strategic advantage with its flexibility and capacity, enabling Philippine Airlines to better meet demand and modernize its fleet. The airline's recent order with Airbus, finalized in June 2023, includes nine aircraft expected to be delivered over the next two years, with intentions to serve North American markets, particularly Canada and the U.S. East Coast.

The aircraft is designed to be significantly more efficient than older widebody models like the Boeing 777, offering a 25% reduction in fuel burn and emissions, thanks to Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines. The debut of the A350-1000 is projected for the first quarter of 2026, representing a strategic move to better compete on long-range international routes and support economic growth. Alongside this, the airline plans to introduce 13 Airbus A321neos next year to further strengthen regional connectivity.

"These state-of-the-art aircraft will enable us to give our passengers the convenience of nonstop flights on long-range routes in a comfortable passenger cabin where our cabin crew can do what they do best—extend gracious service and world-class Filipino hospitality," said Lucio C. Tan III, President & Chief Operating Officer of PAL Holdings Inc.

With these developments, Philippine Airlines aims to significantly upgrade its fleet with a focus on efficiency, comfort, and expanding its international reach, particularly targeting North American markets as its primary future destination.
