Qantas Plans Continued International Flight Cancellations Amid Rising Costs

Qantas Group has announced further adjustments to its flight schedule, citing increased operational costs as the reason for ongoing cancellations into early 2027. The airline will focus more on high-demand international routes, especially toward Europe, where capacity is being increased by approximately 2,000 weekly seats during the Northern Summer season. Simultaneously, Qantas will reduce services on some markets, including a suspension of flights between Sydney and Bengaluru from August to October, and a decline in overall international capacity by about 2%.

This strategic shift comes amid rising fuel prices linked to geopolitical conflicts affecting supply chains. Despite the increased costs, the airline aims to maintain strong operations in high-yield markets such as Europe and Perth-Rome routes, which will continue with extra capacity for the upcoming months.

Furthermore, domestically, Qantas plans to sustain a 5% reduction in capacity through September, focusing on trunk and regional routes based on booking trends. Affected travelers will be notified, but the airline emphasizes that these measures are necessary to ensure its financial health in a turbulent economic environment. Overall, the airline remains committed to balancing demand with operational sustainability amidst ongoing market uncertainties.
