Qatar Airways has announced a comprehensive expansion plan set for 2026, aimed at increasing both its route network and flight frequency to key international markets, including Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Australia. The airline intends to introduce new destinations and boost capacities to better serve rising passenger demand and enhance global connectivity.
In the Middle East, the airline will notably strengthen its Saudi Arabian operations. Starting January 5, 2026, Qatar Airways will commence a new thrice-weekly service to a 13th city within Saudi Arabia, adding to its existing network of destinations. This expansion will see over 150 weekly flights across the region, demonstrating Qatar Airways’ strategic focus on regional connectivity and market growth.

The new service will operate with QR1228 departing Doha at 14:20 and arriving in the Saudi city at 16:30. The return flight QR1229 will leave the destination at 17:30, arriving in Doha at 19:25. These flights will operate on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, offering greater travel flexibility. Additionally, Qatar Airways plans to increase its weekly flight frequencies to Jeddah and Riyadh from six to seven, responding to increased demand in these key commercial and cultural hubs.
"This expansion illustrates Qatar Airways’ commitment to delivering more options for passengers and strengthening regional ties,"
said Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways.
Beyond direct operations, the airline is leveraging strategic partnerships and codeshare agreements to expand its international reach, especially in North America and Australia. Such collaborations allow Qatar Airways to serve more destinations without additional aircraft, providing passengers with seamless connectivity.
Overall, Qatar Airways’ 2026 growth strategy emphasizes an integrated approach to fleet expansion, route development, and strategic alliances, ensuring its position as a leading global carrier with robust regional and international presence.
