Qatar Airways has announced the appointment of Hamad al-Khater as its new group chief executive officer (CEO). The transition will take effect on December 7, 2025, as the airline seeks to continue its growth trajectory and strengthen its global presence. Mr. al-Khater, who previously served as the chief operating officer at Hamad International Airport, will succeed Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, who has been occupying the role since October 2023 and had replaced Akbar Al Baker, the longtime leader of the airline who retired after nearly thirty years of service.
The airline's Board of Directors expressed confidence in Mr. al-Khater’s leadership capabilities, emphasizing his experience and familiarity with the airline’s operations. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Chairman of Qatar Airways Group, welcomed the appointment and highlighted the airline’s commitment to delivering world-class services and maintaining its reputation for excellence.
This leadership change aims to reinforce Qatar Airways’ strategic objectives in expanding its network and improving service quality. Industry analysts view this transition as a move to sustain airline growth and operational efficiency amid increased competition and evolving market demands.
