Singapore Airlines has announced that it will begin daily flights connecting Singapore and Hangzhou, China, from June 1, 2026. The airline’s service will use the Airbus A350-900 medium-haul aircraft, with 40 seats in Business Class and 263 in Economy. The route’s inaugural flight, SQ838, is scheduled to depart Singapore at 1740hrs and arrive in Hangzhou at 2250hrs, with the return flight, SQ839, departing Hangzhou at 0010hrs and arriving in Singapore at 0510hrs.
This expansion marks an important milestone for Singapore Airlines in its Chinese network, which will include nine destinations, such as Beijing, Chengdu, and Shanghai. The airline's move aims to meet rising demand from travelers for the route, which benefits from the city’s status as a major tourist and business hub. The city is known for its UNESCO-listed West Lake and rapidly growing e-commerce sector.
Strategic Growth in China
The new service will complement existing flights operated by Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ low-cost subsidiary, to offer increased connectivity across China. The airline’s Senior Vice President of Marketing Planning, Dai Haoyu, emphasized that the new route to Hangzhou will provide greater choices for passengers and strengthen Singapore Airlines' presence in the region.
Hangzhou’s strategic location in China’s Yangtze River Delta and its economic importance make it a key destination for both leisure and business travel. The airline expects the route to boost tourism and trade links, offering travelers more options within Asia.
