Slippery Rock University has launched a pioneering aviation pathway in partnership with the Community College of Beaver County (CCBC), allowing students to earn both an associate degree and a bachelor's degree simultaneously. This innovative co-enrollment program aims to prepare students for high-demand careers in aviation by providing a seamless academic experience across both institutions.
The pathway offers students opportunities in programs including homeland security, cybersecurity, engineering, and computing, among others. Notably, SRU’s engineering programs are accredited by ABET, emphasizing their commitment to quality education. The partnership also leverages SRU as one of six "premier partner" institutions in the nation within the James M. Johnson School of Aviation Sciences, fostering an integrated educational journey for aspiring pilots and aviation professionals.
“This partnership is an ideal match for students who want to further enhance their careers and earning potential by complementing their aviation training with a relevant bachelor’s degree,” said Nicole Dafoe, dean of SRU’s College of Engineering and Science.
CCBC’s aviation program is highly regarded across the country, having produced pilots for every major airline in the United States and air traffic controllers at FAA control towers. As the program progresses, electrical and computer engineering will soon seek ABET accreditation, with the first class graduating in Fall 2025. This collaborative model aims to provide flexible, accessible, and valuable pathways for students to develop into aviation leaders, ready to meet evolving industry skills and workforce needs.
More details about the aviation pathway are available on the SRU website.
