Thailand’s Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) has announced a comprehensive plan to elevate Suvarnabhumi Airport into a regional aviation hub, which is set to be presented to the Cabinet. During the Skyconomy seminar held on October 28, 2025, Ms. Paweena Jariyathitipong outlined the key components of this strategy, including a significant increase in the Passenger Service Charge (PSC) from 5 to no less than 200 baht, to support airport expansion and increase revenue.
The master plan also includes the phased development of the South Terminal, designed to accommodate 70 million passengers annually, and revisions to aircraft landing and parking fees based on aircraft size, aligning with international standards. These efforts aim to improve profitability, bolster aviation-related revenues, and compensate for impacts from the current duty-free contract with King Power.
Regarding the ongoing contract negotiations with King Power Group, AOT has completed a study and will present it to its Board. Two approaches are under consideration: either terminating the contract and initiating a new bidding process, which could lead to temporary revenue loss, or renegotiating the terms, with proposals that ensure minimum income levels not falling below 8 billion baht annually. The contract resolution is expected by November 2025, reflecting AOT’s proactive approach to maximizing airport revenue and enhancing Thailand’s position as a regional aviation hub.
