Vietjet Air is undertaking its most significant fleet expansion to date, acquiring 22 new aircraft this December, including Airbus, Boeing, and wet-leased jets. The airline aims to meet the surge in travel demand ahead of the 2026 Lunar New Year by bolstering its capacity and network. Notably, an Airbus A321neo ACF (VN-A580) has already joined the fleet, supporting domestic routes during the busy holiday season. Additionally, nine Boeing jets and four wet-leased aircraft, such as an A320 from BBN Airlines Thailand, are scheduled to arrive to further augment capacity.
In conjunction with the fleet expansion, Vietjet is launching a new route between Ho Chi Minh City and Manila, commencing December 19. The flights will operate overnight, with promotional fares offering zero-đong tickets and additional baggage allowances to attract holiday travelers. The airline is also reintegrating wet-leased COMAC aircraft from Chengdu Airlines to serve flights to Côn Đảo, catering to airport infrastructure requirements. This strategic move aims to enhance Vietnam's international connectivity and meet the increasing domestic and regional travel demand during the holiday period.
Strategic Fleet and Route Development
The expansion reflects Vietjet's broader strategy to strengthen its fleet and expand its network, especially in response to recent global supply constraints. The new aircraft and route offerings are expected to improve service capacity and provide more travel options for passengers during a peak travel season. Overall, this fleet and route growth position Vietjet for a more competitive and resilient presence in Southeast Asian aviation markets.
