The Vietnamese government is fast-tracking plans to develop Long Thanh International Airport, aiming to transform it into the premier aviation hub of Southeast Asia. The project encompasses expanding airport capacity to 50 million passengers annually by 2026 and constructing additional runways and terminals. Key infrastructure projects such as expressways and metro lines are being synchronized to support the airport's logistics and connectivity. Officials emphasize the importance of making the airport attractive for international carriers through competitive policies on fees and services, as part of positioning it at the forefront of regional and global flight networks.

The project, which began construction in January 2021, has already completed several critical components, with the full operational readiness expected by mid-2026. Efforts also include developing an airport city with accommodation, services, and logistics facilities, intended to establish Long Thanh as a comprehensive transportation and business hub for Southeast Asia.

Strategic infrastructure and policy development are key to Vietnam's vision of elevating Long Thanh to a leading position in regional aviation, as authorities aim to surpass current regional leaders with a modern, efficient, and globally connected airport.
