Sarawak's Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, attended the International Civil Aviation Forum 2025 in Shanghai, focusing on enhancing global connectivity and embracing innovation in the aviation sector. During his address, he outlined Sarawak’s strategic vision to elevate its air connectivity and develop a sustainable, innovation-driven aviation industry aligned with the state's Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
He emphasized that Sarawak is moving from a primarily regional connectivity model towards integrating into international aviation networks. The minister highlighted the importance of international collaboration and technological advancement to create high-value employment opportunities and position Sarawak on the global aviation map.
The forum, held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and organized by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), gathered over 300 delegates including representatives from ICAO, IATA, ASEAN, and civil aviation authorities from multiple countries. Discussions focused on artificial intelligence, greener aviation initiatives, and technological infrastructure to support sustainable growth and digitalization within the industry.
Two key sub-forums—‘Enhancing Global Connectivity’ and ‘Embracing Innovation for Aviation’—addressed topics such as big data, AI, green energy, and infrastructure standardization. The Shanghai Jiao Tong University International Civil Aviation Institute, established in 2024, hosted the event and aims to serve as a think tank and talent development platform for international aviation growth.
This year's forum built on its success from 2024, expanding its global reach and fostering international cooperation to advance aviation technology and sustainable practices worldwide.
