This initiative aims to address persistent workforce shortages impacting aerospace and defence sectors. As part of the targeted investments, Palm Beach State College will receive nearly five million dollars to launch accelerated programs in quantum technology and cybersecurity, with an expectation of nearly 1,000 students enrolling over the next decade. Additionally, Melbourne Orlando International Airport is set to receive $2.5 million to expand its maintenance apron, which has reached full capacity due to increasing demand for MRO services. The expansion is expected to generate around 500 new jobs with competitive salaries. Broward College has been awarded just over $900,000 to reinforce its aviation mechanics program, which consolidates multiple certifications into a one-year course while maintaining a high retention rate. Florida’s commerce secretary highlighted the strategic importance of these investments to national security by strengthening pipeline capacities for aviation maintenance and defence roles. The allocations are among the final fiscal year grants, with industry events like WATS 2026 addressing ongoing training pipeline challenges and industry development.
