As the aviation industry grapples with its environmental impact, technological innovations are emerging as vital solutions. Major challenges include the sector's contribution of approximately 2-3% of global carbon emissions, compounded by pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and contrails that intensify global warming. International agreements like CORSIA aim to limit emissions growth, but enforcement remains complex due to international compliance issues.

Significant advances include electric and hybrid aircraft prototypes, with companies like Airbus and Eviation leading the testing of short-haul electric planes. These face hurdles related to battery weight and energy density, but hybrids offer a middle ground by integrating conventional engines with electric systems to reduce fuel consumption.

Another promising development is the increased use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), which can reduce lifecycle emissions by up to 80%. Although SAF is expensive and scaling is difficult, it represents a crucial step toward decarbonization. Additionally, artificial intelligence and data analytics are being utilized to optimize flight paths and maintenance, leading to lower emissions and operational costs.

Despite the high costs and infrastructure demands, the industry sees significant opportunities in early adoption of green tech, including market share growth and job creation. The overall shift towards sustainable aviation is essential for meeting climate goals and securing a viable future for air travel, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts among industry stakeholders.
