Cathay Pacific has advanced its flight operations by integrating new technological tools within its Electronic Flight Folder (EFF) platform. Developed by its subsidiary, Cathay Technologies, the EFF provides pilots with real-time data and operational insights, significantly enhancing decision-making capabilities.
One notable feature, the En-route Diversion Guide (EDG), allows flight crews to quickly identify suitable alternate airports during emergencies such as medical evacuations or technical failures. Previously reliant on static maps that depended on assumptions about weather, terrain, and aircraft weight, the EDG now offers dynamic options based on live operational data, reducing pilot workload during critical moments.
Captain James Toye, General Manager Operations, highlights that such tools are the first of their kind globally and contribute to safer, more efficient flights. Additionally, Cathay’s Ops Chat facilitates seamless communication among flight teams and ground operations, further supporting operational safety and coordination. These innovations reflect Cathay's broader goal to turn connectivity into practical safety solutions and demonstrate its leadership in aviation technology adoption.
