BAE Systems' Airborne Power Systems team has opened a new, state-of-the-art facility in Endicott, New York, aimed at advancing electric flight technologies. The site consolidates research, development, and manufacturing efforts for high-voltage energy storage systems critical to the future of electrified aircraft. The company's focus aligns with industry-wide goals of reducing carbon emissions in aviation by 2050.

With more than 25 years of experience supporting hybrid-electric ground vehicles and decades of expertise in flight control systems, BAE Systems is pioneering innovations across three main areas: energy storage, integrated control systems, and power conversion. Their lithium-ion energy storage systems, used worldwide, facilitate lighter, more efficient aircraft designs. Meanwhile, their integrated flight control systems help make aircraft operations more efficient and reliable, while advanced power electronics ensure safe and clean energy distribution across aircraft systems.

The convergence of these technologies supports a variety of electric aircraft concepts, including electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles and blended wing designs, which could transform market accessibility and efficiency. BAE Systems emphasizes collaboration with regulators and industry partners to certify these innovations, ensuring that the future of air travel is environmentally sustainable, cost-effective, and innovative.
