Aer Lingus has begun operating a non-stop weekly service from Dublin Airport (DUB) to Raleigh–Durham International Airport (RDU), marking the airline's entry into this US market. The route is served by Airbus A321XLR aircraft and aligns with the upcoming Aer Lingus College Football Classic, offering a new international link to North Carolina.
This service makes Aer Lingus the fifth carrier to serve Raleigh-Durham with long-haul flights and aims to strengthen North America's access to Europe through Ireland. The airline plans to operate five flights per week, taking advantage of US Customs & Border Protection Preclearance at Dublin, allowing passengers to pass through US immigration before leaving Irish soil.
Expansion of European Connectivity at RDU
The new Dublin route is part of a broader expansion for Aer Lingus, which intends to establish 26 North American destinations by 2026. The route complements other European connections at Raleigh-Durham, including flights to Paris, Frankfurt, and Reykjavik operated by airlines such as Air France, Lufthansa, and Icelandair. Overall, these developments are expected to significantly increase international traffic at RDU during peak travel seasons.
Ultimately, the new service underscores Raleigh-Durham's growing role as a regional hub for transatlantic flights, fostering economic and tourism development by providing more direct, non-stop options to Europe.
