Aeroflot, Russia's flagship carrier based at Moscow Sheremetyevo, is implementing a strategic shift towards increasing its domestic aircraft fleet. During a summit held on April 28, 2026, CEO Sergey Aleksandrovsky revealed plans for the airline to have 50% of its aircraft be Russian-made within the next decade. The current fleet, numbering 194 aircraft, is operated across over 100 destinations, with daily flights totaling approximately 810.

The airline's fleet diversification includes the Sukhoi SSJ 100/95B, which makes up roughly 20% of its current fleet. To support the goal of fleet domestication, Aeroflot intends to acquire more than 200 MC-21-300 aircraft by 2033. This move aligns with Russia's broader national strategy to bolster its aircraft manufacturing industry amidst international sanctions and geopolitical challenges.

CEO Aleksandrovsky emphasized that the airline will adhere to its plan of balancing imported and domestic aircraft, aiming for a 50/50 split by 2036. Currently, the entire Aeroflot Group, which includes subsidiaries Pobeda and Rossiya, holds a domestic aircraft share of approximately 20%, primarily composed of Sukhoi models. The company's strategic focus is part of a wider effort to reduce reliance on foreign aircraft and support Russia's domestic aviation industry.
