In 2025, Air Astana announced a record-breaking order for 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, marking its largest-ever aircraft purchase. This strategic fleet expansion aims to modernize the airline's fleet, currently dominated by Boeing 767-300s, and enhance international connectivity, especially to North America.

The new Dreamliners will significantly increase capacity, with each aircraft seating around 303 passengers. When all units are delivered, the fleet is expected to grow to 18 aircraft, including three from leasing companies. This development is part of Air Astana’s broader plan to position Kazakhstan as a more prominent player in regional and global aviation markets.

Paul Righi, Vice President of Boeing Commercial Sales for Eurasia and India, highlighted the importance of this order for both Boeing and Air Astana. The airline’s CEO, Peter Foster, emphasized that this fleet upgrade aligns with their vision for growth over the next decade, supporting the airline's strategy to develop and diversify its routes, including targeted deployment to North America.

Meanwhile, Boeing continues to stabilize the production of its 787 program at approximately 7 units per month, with plans to increase this to 8 units before year-end. The company aims to eventually reach a record-high output rate of 16 units per month at its Charleston facility, contributing to its long-term recovery and growth in the widebody aircraft segment.
