Air bp, the aviation fuel and services division of bp, has announced a major multi-year supply and service agreement with Airbus, one of the world's leading aircraft manufacturers. The contract covers the provision of conventional jet fuel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), along with associated operational services, across key locations in Germany and Spain.
This partnership signifies one of the largest voluntary off-take agreements of SAF by an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), highlighting Airbus's commitment to sustainability and emissions reduction. Air bp will supply fuels to support Airbus's commercial aircraft, helicopters, and military divisions, enabling critical activities such as flight testing, customer deliveries, and internal transportation.
Strategic Partnership and Environmental Goals
Christian Frohn, Vice President of Air bp, expressed confidence that the agreement exemplifies their capacity to deliver complex, multi-national solutions bolstering both operational efficiency and environmental sustainability. He noted that SAF, which can reduce lifecycle CO2 emissions by up to 80%, plays a vital role despite not reducing emissions during combustion, since emissions at the aircraft wingtip are comparable to fossil fuels.
This collaboration underscores Airbus's strategic focus on sustainable aviation and emissions mitigation, with the agreement supporting Airbus's operations across multiple sectors and locations.
