Air France is undertaking a phased retirement of its Airbus A330 fleet, aligning with a broader effort to modernize and optimize its route network. The airline's last operations using the A330 are expected in the upcoming year, with most routes targeted for replacement by newer aircraft such as the Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 787-9, especially from its hub at Paris Charles de Gaulle.

The airline’s schedule filings indicate that starting from March 28, 2027, several destinations—including Abuja, Bangui, Douala, and Lome—will see their A330 flights replaced by these advanced aircraft, reflecting a shift towards greater efficiency and modernity. Although an official date for the complete fleet withdrawal has not yet been announced, the gradual reduction in usage underscores the aircraft's nearing phase-out.

Currently, only six A330s are in Air France’s fleet, with just three actively flying. The oldest unit, identified as F-GZCF, was first delivered in 2002 and is nearly 24 years old. The fleet's average age of approximately 22.9 years highlights the urgency for renewal. In contrast, the airline is increasingly relying on newer aircraft types to serve its strategic goals.

Overall, this transition marks a significant step for Air France’s fleet composition, emphasizing the replacement of aging aircraft with modern, fuel-efficient models. The move is expected to improve operational reliability and align with industry standards for sustainability and cost efficiency.
