Air India has announced changes to its flight schedules and international route network for the upcoming Northern Summer 2026 season, with a focus on optimizing its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet. The airline will reduce flights to some European and North American destinations while increasing capacity towards Asia.
Starting from 29 March 2026, the Delhi to Copenhagen route will operate four weekly flights instead of five, using the Boeing 787-8. Similarly, the Delhi to Milan Malpensa route will decrease from six to five weekly services during the summer period, also with the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. These adjustments reflect bigger strategic shifts as Air India reallocates aircraft to meet rising demand in Asian markets.
Aircraft repositioning is evident as Boeing 787-8 jets are moved from destinations west of Canada to destinations east, including Seoul and Shanghai. From 1 April 2026, the Delhi to Seoul Incheon route will have six weekly flights, an increase from the current five, and from 4 April, flights to Shanghai Pu Dong will increase from four to five per week. These changes aim to bolster the airline’s presence in Asia during the season.
Additional Route Changes and Capacity Increases
Among the other updates, Air India is resuming its flight to Rome Fiumicino, starting 25 March 2026, with four weekly services operated by the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Also, capacity to San Francisco will grow from seven to ten weekly flights beginning 3 March 2026, using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, while flights from Vienna to Toronto will also increase from seven to ten weekly from 1 March 2026 to meet the expanding demand for Canadian-bound travel.
Some services currently operating will conclude, including the Bangalore-Kolkata-San Francisco route, which will run until late February 2026, and the Mumbai-Kolkata-San Francisco route, which will also end in February, both operated with Boeing 777-300ER jets. These adjustments are part of a fleet and network strategy aimed at maximizing capacity and efficiency for the busy upcoming summer travel season.
