Air India has announced the launch of two new international routes connecting India to Southeast Asia and East Asia. Beginning 01 May 2026, the airline will operate non-stop flights between Delhi and Hanoi, Vietnam, utilizing A320neo aircraft. This new route makes Hanoi the second gateway in Vietnam for Air India and offers greater travel flexibility with five weekly flights. Additionally, from 15 June 2026, Air India will commence non-stop flights between Mumbai and Tokyo (Haneda) using Boeing 787-8 aircraft, with plans to upgrade to the B787-9 and introduce Premium Economy on this route.

The airline's expansion aims to satisfy rising passenger demand from India, particularly for Japan and Vietnam. According to officials, these routes will strengthen connections to the UK and Europe, and enhance trade and tourism initiatives in the region. The new Hanoi flights complement existing flights to Ho Chi Minh City, offering travelers more options for open-jaw itineraries.

China Eastern Airlines Expands Brisbane Service

In parallel, China Eastern Airlines will operate daily flights from Shanghai to Brisbane year-round starting 15 June 2026. The service capacity will increase from 15 June, supporting Queensland's tourism industry and facilitating closer economic ties with China. The route directly links Queensland with Shanghai, a major Chinese hub, enabling seamless travel connections to other Chinese and international destinations. The move is supported by Queensland's government and Brisbane Airport, emphasizing the importance of the China-Australia corridor for trade, business, and leisure travel.

Officials from both airlines emphasized that these expansions reflect growing demand and regional cooperation efforts. The developments are expected to bolster tourism numbers, support local economies, and foster further collaboration between India, Vietnam, China, and Australia in the aviation sector.
